What to do if you don't have insurance or need low-cost therapy.
There are a few options.
1. Each major city has a community mental health clinic (acronym MHMR). For example, here in San Antonio, Center for Health Care Services is our MHMR. They offer adult and children mental health services, medication management, intellectual and autism services, substance abuse treatment, and crisis services. The website is: https://chcsbc.org/what-to-expect/enrollment/
You can try googling (your city name, MHMR) to find the closest one to you.
2. CentroMed offers medical, mental health, OBGYN, Dental, and Lab Work on an income based pay scale. For San Antonio click this link: https://centromedsa.com
You will need a referral from your Centro Med PCP to see a therapist or psychiatrist.
3. Open Path Collective is a website that has partnered with therapists in all 50 states and Canada to offer quality mental health at an affordable cost. Session cost are between $30-$70. Search for a therapist using this link: https://openpathcollective.org
Reach out to 2 or 3 therapist to increase your chances of getting an appointment.
4. Many universities offer low cost or free therapy in exchange for allowing student counselors to practice their craft; for example St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Tx offers low cost children's therapy, play therapy, couples therapy, and grief therapy.
